Finished Socks.

Image
I got these off the needles yesterday and blocked today. I'm in love with them. They were made with Misti Alpaca sock yarn (from the Yarn SOTM club). I tried a number of patterns with it before coming down to this simple one. Now what pair to cast on next?

When You Aren't Knitting

Image
You might wonder what a person is up to - the answer ... weaving and spinning of course. I think I'm getting more and more comfortable with the wheel and the loom. Last night I was really into the rhythm of weaving and the edges of my project are looking much much better! As for spinning - I finished off one spool and most of another ... when the peddle broke (AGAIN!). Mike will have to fix it. I'm wondering if I have so much break that the little plastic bit can't handle it.

The Loom

Image
Yesterday the Ashford floor loom showed up. I got it set up, and warped within minutes. Very easy. Although the actual "weaving" motion seems to be in question. My first project is a scarf and as you can see the tension will be hard to get correct. I guess practice makes perfect.

Happy Earth Day.

Being the green day that today is - I spent the afternoon spinning and setting up my new loom. I'm still not "sure" how the loom works - but after re-doing the warp again ... I'm getting there. All of the washcloths for this year are up. Hope you enjoy. Happy Birthday Planet Earth!

Earth Day Count Down

Image
In honor of Earth Day this year I've designed a series of washcloths (to utilize left over cottons, bamboo, or other very washable fibers). Starting tomorrow I'll post one a day! Happy Earth Week!!!

April WIP

I've been working on this little black wrap/sweater for a while. The needles are large - but the kid silk is tough to work with (well at least it takes a lot of time). I decided last night to make a push on it while at climbing class. So, I took it with and got the back portion done. This is what the finished sweater will look like. It is from French Girl Knits and I'm hoping comes out this nice (I haven't seen any good examples on Ravelry). The patter is pretty strange. You do the bottom back. Then cast on more waste yarn - knit across it - then k3tog all of the previous back stitches (I guess this gathers it a bit on the back) and then cast on more stitches with waste yarn. I'm pretty interested to see how the whole thing goes together and finishes. I've read the pattern a couple of times and am still a bit lost on the finishing.

Dying Sock Yarn

Last night Avivah and Anne came over for some fun and excitement in the kitchen. We made very little mess and skeined up 13 400 yard balls. Each being enough to make a pair of socks (I think both Avivah and I were very pleased with the result). We went with a merino, bamboo, nylon mix - which really sucked up the dye but over all was easy to work with. Here are my first set. Easter Love. Progress ...

Last night I didn't get a lot of knitting done. Seems like the second sock is always harder than the first to get into for me. Regardless. Here are two of my current projects. Tank top (as a gift for someone) and the finished first sock. Still working on the patterns.

Socks ...

The latest SOTM kit has shown up from Yarn. The purple cascade sock yarn is delicious and the "pseudo" cable pattern looks like it will be fun to knit up! I started writing up the washcloth patterns and am finding it more time consuming to write up the patterns than it was to actually knit up the clothes. Hmm. Should I write down the patterns more when I'm knitting up testers? The previous sock post with the Harris Tweed has been frogged. Actually I frogged it shortly after posting it and decided to do a basic 2/2 rib pattern. I finished the first sock in a day and LOVE it. Now just trying to decide if I should keep it or give it away?? Using an new climbing chalk bag (that was given to me for Christmas), I've also created an easy way to knit on the go. Should I patent the idea?
